Turtle Tube Dress (2023)

The Turtle Dress is an example of zero-waste, composite apparel made without sewing. It begins as an intricately patterned, seamless tube of linked and interlaced fabric, braided continuously from Supima cotton and elastane. The tube is made to the dimensions of the garment, cut to length, and the naturally fringed edges are simply bound to finish the piece.

Rather than cutting and sewing multiple pieces of fabric together, the pattern, structure, stretch and fit are built directly into the textile as it is made. The result is a remarkably simple construction with virtually no material waste.
